KingSett Capital Science-Based Targets Initiative Guidance

Pratus Group was retained by KingSett Capital to undertake a study of one of their investment portfolios to benchmark greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and set carbon reduction targets for 2027, 2030, 2033, and 2035 in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Utility data, in tandem with available refrigerant information, was used to calculate baseline GHG emissions for the portfolio in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The baseline was benchmarked against data from KingSett’s portfolio, including the age, size, and locations of the buildings in the portfolio.

Following the baseline benchmarking of the portfolio wide GHG emissions, Pratus conducted an analysis of the factors that influence GHG emissions for existing buildings across Canada to identify opportunities for meaningful and realistic future emissions reductions. These factors include regulator carbon reduction targets emissions trends in existing buildings, decarbonization strategies for existing buildings, utility pricing, carbon offsets and future carbon pricing, future utility escalation and security, and embodied carbon.
